RR/S2 Transformation
At the end of the 2001 racing season Team Elves sold it's interest in a sole RR1000 effort and Aaron Wilson bought the bodywork at auction from the team. For 2002 he refitted the RR racing skins to a 1995 S2 frame and this RR/S2 was born. The new setup also included a 6 inch extended swing arm and a 1650cc motor replaced the 1000cc engine from the previous two years. Richard Nallin piloted the bike to a 202.989 record at the World of Speed in 2002.

The bike was stable even though the bodywork looked disproportionately short. Still, I offered to extend the skins and fill in the fugly gaps. Aaron readily accepted the offer and had the bike delivered here after the Dealer Expo in 2003.

No record setting effort was mounted in 2003 but some testing and experimenting was gained. In 2004 Aaron returned the bike to the salt with Timbo Horton as pilot and knocked down the old Team Elves 1650cc record with a 205.642 average and broke a 2000cc record to boot. The consensus is that there is a lot more mph to be had in the current configuration.
Without a wind tunnel test to establish a baseline before the extension and one afterwards for comparison it's hard to quantify any aerodynamic gains. The engine and rider combinations have changed too. However, it's safe to say, the modifications didn't hurt the bike and they certainly didn't hurt the looks. It was a challenge and a lot of fun to work on this project. Thanks again Aaron Wilson!
